Sarah Ann Blocker (1857–1944) was a pioneering African American educator and landowner in Florida whose leadership advanced higher education for Black students in the post-Reconstruction South. She co-founded what became Florida Memorial University, one of the state’s oldest historically Black institutions.
Born in 1897 in Grenada, Louise Little was a writer, organizer, and devoted mother of Malcolm X and his siblings. She was an active follower of Marcus Garvey and a member of the Universal Negro Improvement Association, using her voice to promote Black pride and self-determination. Brilliant and outspoken, her life was later marked by racial violence, family separation, and forced institutionalization—making her story one of strength, intellect, and a truth history rarely tells.
